AMD graphics driver crashes on Windows
Your AMD graphics driver is crashing when Luduvo starts. This is a known Luduvo bug, not your PC.
What you see
A black screen for a couple of seconds, then the window closes. No error popup.
Who's affected
AMD graphics on Windows using Vulkan: RX 6700 XT, RX 6500 XT and many Ryzen laptop chips. Some RX 580, RX 570 and RX 9060 XT cards work. Build 45 starts on D3D12 instead of Vulkan, so AMD players on 45 are getting the D3D12 startup failure rather than this crash.
Why it happens
Luduvo crashes inside AMD's Vulkan driver, amdvlk64.dll. matt said neither main engine developer has an AMD card to test on.
What to do
- There's nothing you can fix on Windows yet. Staff said on 23 Sep it'll be fixed by October.
- If you already have Linux on this PC, several players with the same hardware say Luduvo works there.
- Follow the AMD thread for news. AMD support thread
Don't bother with
- Reinstalling your AMD driver. It doesn't help with this one.
- Clearing your shader cache.
- Downloading DLL files from other sites.
Status
Still open as of build 45.
“This will be resolved by October.”
How the Doctor spots it
It looks for log lines like these (patterns, not exact text):
amdvlk(?:64|32).dll+0x
