Luduvo bug Stops the game starting Windows

Game won't start: D3D12 graphics error

Not fixed yet

Luduvo fails while setting up its graphics, before the game even opens. This is a known Luduvo bug, not your PC.

What you see

A popup says Luduvo failed to launch and to check client.log. Studio says the Client did not start.

Who's affected

Anyone whose game ends up on D3D12. Build 45 starts Windows PCs on D3D12, and on 26 Sep players posted this failure from a GTX 1050, a GTX 1650, an RX 6600, a Ryzen laptop and an Intel UHD laptop. On build 44 it was mostly Intel UHD and HD laptops, plus a GTX 1650 and an RX 9060 XT.

Why it happens

One of Luduvo's D3D12 compute shaders fails to build on these drivers. matt traced it to the cluster build-grid shader, and said it may not be the only one.

What to do

  1. There's nothing you can fix on your end yet. Reinstalling drivers or Luduvo won't change this one.
  2. Build 45 didn't fix this. Update Luduvo when the next build comes out, then try again.
  3. Follow the main thread for news. I cant play luduvo because of this bug

Don't bother with

  • Reinstalling your graphics driver again. Players on up-to-date drivers hit this too.
  • Patching or swapping Luduvo's shader files. The integrity check puts them back, and it's against Luduvo's terms.

Status

Still open as of build 45.

“This will most likely be resolved in tomorrow's update, Luduvo 45. If it continues, please let us know.”

Build 45 came out on 26 Sep, and logs posted that day still show this failure. Staff haven't posted about it on the forum since.

How the Doctor spots it

It looks for log lines like these (patterns, not exact text):

  • [nvrhi] Failed to create a compute pipeline state object
  • ClusteredForward: failed to create build-grid pipeline
